Culion, officially the Municipality of Culion (Tagalog: Bayan ng Culion), is a municipality in the province of Palawan, Philippines, with a population of 23,213 people as of the 2020 census. Located in the Calamianes Group of Islands, it was historically known as the site of the Culion Leper Colony, one of the largest leprosy treatment facilities in the world during the American colonial period. The island was established as a leper colony in 1906, and over time, it became a center for medical research and treatment until the disease was fully controlled.

Today, Culion stands as a symbol of resilience and progress, with its historical hospital and preserved structures serving as reminders of its past. Beyond its historical significance, Culion is home to pristine beaches, diverse marine ecosystems, and vibrant coral reefs, making it an emerging eco-tourism destination. The town’s economy relies on fishing, agriculture, and tourism, with visitors drawn to its untouched natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. With its blend of history, nature, and a strong sense of community, Culion continues to thrive as one of Palawan’s unique and historically significant municipalities.
