VICE MAYORAL CANDIDATES

Bataraza, officially known as the Municipality of Bataraza (Tagalog: Bayan ng Bataraza), is a municipality in the province of Palawan, Philippines, with a population of 85,439 people as of the 2020 census. Located in the southernmost part of mainland Palawan, it shares a maritime border with Sabah, Malaysia, through the Balabac Strait.

The municipality was named after Datu Bataraza Narrazid, a local Muslim chieftain who played a significant role in the area’s history. Formerly a part of the municipality of Brooke’s Point, Bataraza became an independent municipality on June 17, 1967, through Republic Act No. 4863. It is known for its rich mineral resources, particularly nickel, which is extensively mined in the area. Agriculture and fishing also contribute to the local economy, with coconut, rubber, and rice being the primary agricultural products. Bataraza is a culturally diverse community with a mix of indigenous Palaw’an, Molbog, and Muslim communities, reflecting the town’s historical and geographical ties to both Palawan and the Sulu archipelago
