With at least six villages in the northern town of Roxas already infected by the mango pulp weevil (MPW), quarantine boundaries have been moved to contain the pest's total infestation of Palawan.
An estimated 97 families, or over 200 individuals, have been evacuated from their homes, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO).
A situational report released by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) through its chief, Jerry Alili, said 25 families were evacuated to safer grounds in Culion from the barangays of Balala, Osmeña, Tiza, Jardin, and Culango.
PDRRMO officer Jeremias Alili said the inspection was conducted by two teams and was intended to assess the preparedness of municipalities to respond to emergencies.
In a clarificatory statement, the Provincial Information Office (PIO) said their earlier statement was only intended to come up with an inventory of stranded residents.
They were transported to Palawan beginning April 5 by Governor Jose Alvarez's personal Kodiak plane from Manila with medicines and additional medical supplies from the Department of Health (DOH).
