Palawan's 23 municipalities are excluded from the new registration in view of the plebiscite scheduled in May for the proposal to divide Palawan into three smaller provinces.
Barring any adverse ruling by the Supreme Court on a petition filed by local civil society groups assailing the constitutionality of Republic Act 11259 signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte in April last year, the Commission on Elections has stated they are prepared to proceed with the holding of the plebiscite.
The provincial office of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) said there are now about 44,000 newly-registered voters in Palawan based on the registration they conducted from August 1 to September 30.
Over 70,000 voters from Puerto Princesa City and Palawan are set to be purged from the voters' list for failure to participate in the two succeeding regular elections, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) said Wednesday.
