A cooperative building and warehouse were turned over to members of Sitio Dinagdagan, Barangay Ocayan, Bataraza as a stepping-stone for the independence of the group, said Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC).

CBNC community relations officer Jocelyn Valenzuela said the newly-built cooperative building and warehouse would be beneficial for its 62 active members.

Valenzuela said the main source of livelihood of the cooperative is the plantation and production of coffee and corn.

The cooperative is preparing their funds for a plan to develop a business in the future, she added.

“Yong purpose talaga noon is parang stepping stone ng cooperative para maging independent sila sa pag-i-implement sa community so kumbaga ang purpose namin ay ma-strengthen sila na may sarili na silang coop. May magpa-facilitate ng future projects nila. Parang may sarili na silang tahanan ngayon,” she said.

Valenzuela said that the facilities are amounting to P460,000 from Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) as requested of the community. It was turned over to the community of Sitio Dinagdagan on October 01, Tuesday.

According to Valenzuela, the cooperative was established in 2014 and used the ‘bahay tuluyan’ of the local council and converted it into a cooperative house after they were registered to Cooperative Development Authority (CDA).

“Nilo-look forward ng company na sana ay maging independent, maging successful yong kooperatiba kasi masisipag sila, mga active talaga sila,” she said.
