An American national drowned Saturday in a beach resort in Barangay Napsan, according to a police report.

P/Lt. Col. Imelda Tolentino, the spokesperson of the Police Regional Office (PRO) MIMAROPA, identified the drowning victim as Stephen Duane Dewitt, a US citizen residing in Manalo Street, Puerto Princesa City.

The police suspected that the victim was drunk when he tried to swim, as he was reported to be drinking with a companion.

Dewitt was rushed to a hospital in a failed attempt to revive him. A request for autopsy and a post-mortem examination was made to determine the cause of death of the victim.
