The construction of an additional P6-million jail facility in the Narra District Jail (NDJ) has commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony where it is going to be located in Brgy. Antipuluan.

SGO4 Alvin Basaya, officer-in-charge of the corrections facility in Narra, said the additional building will be constructed at the back of the old jail building.

The construction will be funded by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in an aim to decongest the existing detention building facility, he said.

Basaya said it is also to improve the management of the NDJ in taking care of the safety of the inmates and the staff and personnel.

However, Basaya said the construction of the new detention facility does not mean that the current building is congested.

He said that currently, they only have 10 detained individuals facing various cases in court.
