A road accident along the North National Highway in Barangay Tagburos at around 9 p.m. on January 11 tragically led to the loss of a young boy.
The victim, who was hit while biking, was taken to Adventist Hospital Palawan by ambulance but was declared dead upon arrival.
Witnesses reported that the driver of the vehicle, suspected to be intoxicated, sped off after hitting the boy. Concerned citizens chased the vehicle and eventually cornered it in Barangay San Jose.
A police report obtained by Palawan News stated that the vehicle involved in the accident was a black Suzuki Ertiga. The driver, a 42-year-old active member of the Philippine Air Force and a resident of Wescom Road, Barangay San Miguel, was reportedly traveling toward the city proper when the incident occurred.
The victim’s friend, who was cycling ahead of him, told police investigators that he heard a loud impact. Upon turning back, he saw the boy lying unconscious on the road while the vehicle continued driving, dragging the victim’s bicycle along the highway before eventually stopping some distance away.
Police noted that debris from the collision was scattered at the scene of the impact.
Authorities are investigating the case under charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property with abandonment. The police have withheld the name of the suspect pending further investigation.
