The Western Philippines University (WPU) warned students and stakeholders against individuals who present themselves as agents or representatives of scholarship offices and scholarship-giving organizations.
The warning came after the university received reports involving individuals who, upon verification, were found to have no connection or official affiliation with the scholarship-giving bodies they claimed to represent.
“Verify the identity and authority of anyone offering or facilitating scholarship-related services,” WPU advised students and stakeholders before providing personal information, submitting documents or making any payment.
“No scholarship-related transactions are authorized to take place outside the campus,” the university stressed.
The university said official scholarship-related announcements, including application schedules, requirements and other opportunities, should only be considered legitimate when issued through the WPU Institutional Student Programs and Services–Scholarship Services official Facebook page, verified government pages or authorized scholarship-giving institutions.
WPU said the WPU Institutional Student Programs and Services Facebook page and [email protected] are the only official channels for scholarship-related concerns and verification.
“WPU personnel will not allow unauthorized individuals to collect documents, solicit payments, or facilitate scholarship applications on its behalf outside established official channels,” the university warned.
Students who encounter individuals, pages or messages claiming to offer or facilitate scholarships in connection with WPU were encouraged to confirm their legitimacy through the university’s official ISPSO–Scholarship Services contact channels before proceeding with any transaction.
