The WPS Foundation has donated a 61-meter training ship to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), which will deploy the vessel to Mindanao for humanitarian assistance, search and rescue, and marine environmental protection operations.
The vessel was formally turned over to the PCG during a ceremony held this morning after the completion of the required legal, administrative and technical processes.
“The WPS Foundation formally donated a training ship to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in a turnover ceremony held this morning,” the Foundation said.
The vessel, which has an overall length of 61 meters, can be configured as a multi-role response vessel for the PCG.
According to the Foundation, the donation is intended to support the Coast Guard’s mandates in maritime safety, search and rescue, humanitarian assistance and disaster response, marine environmental protection, and maritime capacity-building.
PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan said the vessel will be deployed to Mindanao, where it will be used for humanitarian assistance and disaster response, search and rescue, and marine environmental protection operations.
WPS Foundation President and CEO Dr. Jeffrey Ordaniel said the donation is intended to strengthen the Coast Guard’s operational capacity while serving communities that depend on Philippine waters.
“This donation is about saving lives, protecting our seas, and building the capacity of the men and women of the Philippine Coast Guard. We are proud to have turned over a platform that will serve Filipino fishermen, mariners, and coastal communities,” Ordaniel said.
The Foundation said the donation forms part of its commitment to provide concrete support to the country’s civilian maritime agencies.
It also emphasized that the initiative is “civilian, humanitarian, and non-confrontational in nature” and is not directed against any country.
The WPS Foundation said it will continue coordinating with the PCG and appropriate Philippine authorities regarding the vessel’s utilization.
