Jesus’ disciples huddled themselves like chickens in a locked room for fear of the Jews and the soldiers. They were on the run for their lives. It was in this atmosphere that the Lord appeared to them. “Peace be with you”, he said to them. Jesus even asked Thomas to touch his wounded side to prove that he is real and the wound proves his love for them despite their abandoning him.
When Thomas touched the marks of Jesus’ wound, all his doubts turned into deep faith. “ My Lord and my God! He said. He embodies the apostles’ fear and anxiety who needed a divine injection in their arms to awaken them to the truth of their Master’s rising from death.
Jesus’ appearance to his disciples comes with the message that he wants to restore their relationship. Many relationships fail because there’s no concrete proof of love, there’s no sacrifice, and there’s lack of patience. Instead, there’s so much anger, pride is broken promises and skin-deep commitment. There’s an unwillingness to be wounded for the sake of the beloved. Love no matter how beautifully expressed in words and rhetoric is hollow and void without pain endured and sacrifice made for the sake of the beloved.
Are you willing to be wounded, set aside your comfort and leave your vices for the sake of the one you love? Are you willing to stop your argument and continue to build up your relationship with your loved ones with peace and concrete love? Remember that forgiveness brings together the shattered pieces of yesterday’s enmity and broken relationship.
Jesus is the model of wounded love. Thomas saw Jesus and he changed course from unbelief to faith. Jesus’ coming inside of us in Holy Communion should effect a change of heart and a change of our lives for better and for good.
On the flip side, someone said that God uses our deepest pain, it is the launching pad of our greatest calling. God never allows pain without purpose. What God knows about me is more important than what others think about me. God’s plan will always be better than all your disappointments. Don’t let your emotions be your decision maker. Stop and pray! One moment in God’s presence changes everything. “ Do not pass a man in need, for you may be the hand of God to him. “ ( Proverbs 3:27). Faith is like WI-FI, it’s invisible but it has the power to connect you to what you need. If you can’t get someone off your mind, pray for that person, you may be the only one that cares enough to do so. Never continue in a job you don’t enjoy. Make your heart the most beautiful thing about you. Whatever you decide in life, make sure it makes you. Never chase love, affection or attention if it isn’t given freely by another person, it isn’t worth having. Amen on that folks!!
- Faustina wrote Jesus words; “ Do not fear; I myself will make up for everything that is lacking in you.” ( Diary 435).
