A woman claiming to be a media practitioner was arrested and detained in Coron on Thursday for carrying an unlicensed firearm on a Manila-bound vessel.

A spot report released by the office of Police Regional Office (PRO) MIMAROPA spokesperson PCol. Socrates Faltado on Thursday identified her as 28-years old Jennifer Figalan Maquilan, a resident of Chateau Ely See Don Bosco, Parañaque City.

Faltado said that according to the investigation of the Coron police, Maquilan was a journalist of the Private Media Manila Hotline.

She was arrested around 2:30 p.m. on June 6 by personnel of the Coron Municipal Police Station (MPS) for carrying a caliber .22 Beretta with a magazine loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition.

It was found by police authorities after her bag was submitted for checking in the Coron Port x-ray machine before boarding MV June for Manila.

She is now detained in the Coron MPS for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act”.
