The Philippine Navy has renamed the Western Naval Command (WesNavCom) as Naval Command West (NCW), saying the change marks a significant milestone in its evolving roles and responsibilities while reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests and serving the Filipino people along the country’s western frontier.
Based in Puerto Princesa City, NCW serves as the naval component of the Western Command, which is tasked with protecting the Philippines’ western frontier, particularly the country’s maritime interests and sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea.
The Navy said the name change signifies more than just a new designation. It also represents the command’s continuing transformation to better respond to the demands of the evolving maritime security environment and aligns with its strategic direction of strengthening operational effectiveness.
It added that NCW will remain steadfast in carrying out its mandate with the professionalism, dedication, and excellence that have long defined its service. The Navy emphasized that only the name has changed, while its mission remains the same: to protect the nation’s maritime domain, uphold the country’s sovereign rights, and contribute to regional peace and stability.
The Navy also said the renaming preserves the command’s proud legacy while embracing a renewed identity that reflects its enduring commitment to operational excellence and mission readiness.
