VP Leni ‘worried’ over increase in Chinese workers in the country

Vice President Leni Robredo is worried over the increasing number of Chinese workers in the Philippines.

Robredo said Friday that with its high unemployment rate, job opportunities in the country should be given to Filipinos instead of the Chinese workers.

“Ito, nagaalala tayo. Nagaalala tayo dahil… dahil sa maraming bagay. Iyong number one, mataas pa iyong unemployment natin. Kasi parang bigla. Parang bigla iyong pagdagsa,” she said.

When informed that there are 260 Chinese nationals in Puerto Princesa City working in an alleged illegal online gambling operation without proper working visas and staying in separate hotels, the vice president said: “This is a huge insult to Filipinos.”

“So ang tanong ko, pumupunta sila dito dahil pinagbabawal doon. Bakit natin pinapayagan dito? Marami iyong—again, marami iyong at stake; una, ano ba iyong pinaka-values natin at saka pinaniniwalaan? Eh parang, ‘di ba, malaking insulto iyon sa atin na ipinagbawal nga sa ibang bansa, iyong bawal sa kanila dito sa atin gagawin,” she pointed out.

She hoped that the government will be strict in enforcing the law.
