The Palawan Provincial Board (PB) reminded Palaweños on Tuesday to “vote wisely” during the May 13 midterm elections.

In a resolution authored by board member Roseller Pineda, the PB requested the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPRCV) in the province to conduct public awareness campaign and voters education with media outfits and civil society organizations.

“Alam natin na maraming incidents nito dito sa atin, aside from the money, groceries and whatsoever na pwedeng bolahin ang ating mga botante. Kaya we want to catch the attention of all Palaweños,” Pineda said.

He pointed out that “local perpetrators of vote buying and paid minions seem fearless and unmindful that they are committing a crime punishable by one to six years imprisonment under section 264 of Omnibus Election.”

“We should be awakened na hindi lang maging magaling ang Palawan sa environmental laws but also in election-related laws,” Pineda added.

He said all people know that vote buying and selling occurs during the election period.

Politicians use personal assistance, money, gadgets, rice, medicines, clothes, and a promise of a job as a form buying, Pineda said.
