Authorities seized two unregistered chainsaws in separate enforcement operations in El Nido on January 8 after the equipment were found being used without permits, officials said.
The confiscation was carried out by the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff Wildlife Enforcement Team in Barangay Teneguiban and Barangay San Fernando as part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal use of chainsaws.
The operations were conducted in the afternoon at different locations in the two villages.
Officials said the use of chainsaws without registration and permits from the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development constitutes a violation of Republic Act 9175, or the Chainsaw Act of 2002.
The seized units were placed under temporary custody of the arresting officers for proper disposition in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
Authorities urged the public to help protect the environment by reporting illegal activities in their communities, particularly those linked to forest destruction and illegal logging.
