Unexploded ordnances recovered in separate locations in Palawan

Authorities recovered two unexploded ordnances in separate locations in Palawan over the weekend, September 21.

The first unexploded projectile was found in the municipality of Quezon.

The Palawan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) said a joint team from the Palawan Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit (PECU), Quezon Municipal Police Station (MPS), and the 1st Palawan Mobile Force Company immediately responded after receiving a report about the explosive.

The PECU identified the device as a Military Ordnance Hydra 07-275 INC Rocket.

The projectile is currently under the custody of PECU for proper handling and disposal.

Another unidentified explosive device was recovered from the river in Barangay Irawan, Puerto Princesa City, on Saturday afternoon.

The Puerto Princesa City Police Office (PPCPO) said a resident named Jose Nicanor Carungit discovered the explosive while cutting bamboo in the area.

He reported it to the barangay tanods, who then turned it over to the police.

The unexploded ordnance (UXO), heavily corroded and possibly submerged in the river for a long time, is now also in the custody of PECU at the PPPO Compound in Barangay Tiniguiban, Puerto Princesa City.

Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine how the explosives ended up in these locations.

They are urging the public to report any suspicious items that could pose a danger to the community to the authorities immediately for everyone’s safety.
