The Underground River will retain its 1,200 individual-per-day carrying capacity despite the expected surge of visitors for the Batang Pinoy.

Park superintendent Elizabeth Maclang told Palawan News on Friday that they have already notified travel agencies to make sure that the city’s prime tourist destination will not be booked for more than its carrying capacity.

Maclang also said the park is not in its peak months these times unlike in summer and visitors from the sports event will only fill the slots that would make up to reach the limit.

“Sa tingin namin hindi naman siya magkakaroon ng problema kasi low season tayo ngayon. So ‘yong mga bisita na kadalasan ay wala ngayon sa mga panahon na ito, sila naman ‘yong mga pumapalit. Kaya mare-retain pa rin natin ang ating 1,200 per day,” said Maclang.

She said they will be discussing with the Batang Pinoy 2019 coaches, members, and delegates on August 25 about the dos and don’ts in the park.

Maclang added the city government will be giving discounts to the coaches and chaperones of the players as a way to push Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park’s tourism.

She said this will make it easier for them to create a schedule and system to accommodate only up to 1,200 visitors per day.

She reiterated they are also going to promote other Community Based Sustainable Tourism (CBSTs) in the city for the visitors to experience during their stay.

“Para hindi lang talaga PPUR, para ire-redirect sila sa iba habang nandirito sila,” said Maclang.

Around 10,000 guests of which 6,000 are athletes and 3,000 are coaches will participate in this Batang Pinoy 2019.
