The observance of Undas 2019 (All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day) in Puerto Princesa City was “generally peaceful”, Anti-Crime Task Force (ACTF) head Richard Ligad said on Saturday.
“Wala naman tayong naitalang krimen ngayon. Noong mga nakaraan mga vehicular accident pero so far wala namang kakaibang nangyari, tahimik naman, peaceful ang ating undas,” Ligad said.
Law enforcement agencies from Puerto Princesa City Police Office (PPCPO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), City Traffic Management Office (CTMO), and ACTF were deployed on several cemeteries in the city—Puerto Princesa Old and New Public Cemetery; Loyola Memorial Park; Puerto Princesa Memorial Park; and Sicsican Cemetery.
Health personnel from City Health Office (CHO), Adventist Hospital, Philippine Red Cross, Ospital ng Palawan, and MMG-PPC Cooperative Hospital were also present in providing blood pressure check-up and other basic health counseling services.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), in an earlier statement, warned the public of the northwest monsoon (amihan) and the low-pressure area (LPA) in Mindanao which caused heavy rain in the afternoon. Despite the bad weather, cemetery-goers braved the rain to visit their departed loved ones.
Meanwhile, the transportation operation in San Jose Terminal Station was less busy compared to last year, according to some drivers and operators.
The decline in the influx of passengers was attributed to the city’s earlier work suspension that encourage commuters to travel ahead of the long weekend.
