Beneficiaries of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program in Barangays Lucbuan and Langogan in Puerto Princesa underwent community organic gardening training as part of efforts to strengthen sustainable livelihood and agricultural skills, according to the City Public Employment Service Office.
In a statement, the City PESO said the training was conducted on May 13 as part of the beneficiaries’ 15-day training program following their orientation held on May 4.
“Layunin nitong mabigyan ang mga benepisyaryo ng karagdagang kaalaman at kasanayan sa sustainable at makakalikasang pamamaraan ng pagtatanim na maaari nilang magamit sa kanilang pang-araw-araw na pamumuhay at kabuhayan,” the office said.
The activity was conducted in partnership with the City Agriculture Office, which provided lectures and technical guidance on organic gardening and proper crop management.
City PESO also conducted monitoring activities in existing community gardens in the two barangays to ensure the continued implementation and maintenance of the project.
According to the office, most of the TUPAD beneficiaries from Lucbuan and Langogan are farmers, making the training relevant in helping them improve their agricultural knowledge and strengthen their livelihood opportunities.
“Karamihan sa mga TUPAD beneficiaries mula sa Brgy. Lucbuan at Langogan ay mga magsasaka, kaya naman ang ganitong uri ng pagsasanay ay malaking tulong upang higit nilang mapalawak ang kanilang kaalaman sa agrikultura at mapalakas pa ang kanilang kabuhayan,” the statement added.
The City PESO said the initiative forms part of its continuing efforts to provide communities with livelihood opportunities, skills development, and sustainable income programs.
