Tropical Storm Ada weakens into tropical depression east of Luzon

The state weather bureau said Tropical Storm Ada has weakened into a tropical depression as it continues to move over the sea east of Luzon.

In its 5:00 a.m. bulletin on January 19, PAGASA said the center of Tropical Depression Ada was located about 380 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.

The system has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour. It is moving north northeastward at 10 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA said no tropical cyclone wind signal is currently hoisted, but strong to gale-force winds are expected due to the northeast monsoon and the outer circulation of Ada, especially in coastal and upland areas.

For January 19, strong winds may affect Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Aurora, the Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and Northern Samar. On January 20, these conditions may extend to Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Albay, Sorsogon, and Surigao del Sur.

By January 21, strong winds may affect large parts of Luzon, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and sections of Mindanao including Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, and Davao Oriental.

The state weather bureau also warned of rough to moderate sea conditions in several coastal areas. Sea waves of up to 4.0 meters are expected along the eastern seaboard of Isabela and mainland Cagayan, while waves of up to 3.5 meters may affect the eastern seaboards of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, northern Aurora, Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.

Mariners, especially those operating small seacraft and motorbancas, were advised not to venture out to sea in areas with rough seas and to take precautionary measures where moderate seas are expected.

PAGASA said Tropical Depression Ada is forecast to move generally northeastward before following a looping track over the sea east of Luzon. The system is expected to weaken further due to dry air from the northeast monsoon and may be downgraded into a low pressure area by January 21.
