The Residence will host an art exhibit this October in celebration of Museums and Galleries Month, featuring artworks from members of the ILIG Palawenyo Creative Community – Visual Arts Sector and the Palawan Artist Community, in partnership with the Palawan Tourism Council (PTC) and the Provincial Culture and Arts Program (PCAP).
The Lathala’t Gunita Group Art Exhibition will open on Saturday, October 3, while the artworks will be available for public viewing from October 4 to 31.
PCAP head Cielo Pulga said Lathala’t Gunita forms part of The Residence’s monthly art exhibitions and its continuing curation of paintings by Palawan artists.
Leonard Ansiong of ILIG described the exhibit as an “open-themed group exhibition highlighting the pluralism and ever-evolving landscape of contemporary Palawan visual art.”
“The conceptual foundation of the exhibition is constructed on two interrelated foundations: Lathala, the historical act of unearthing the hidden to declare it into the public light – akin to the revealing space of the Gallery as the platform for visual narrative – and Gunita, the deep, permanent remembrance and shared history preserved within the sanctuary of the Museum,” Ansiong said in a post on his Facebook account.
Meanwhile, Pulga said that nearly six months after The Residence opened to the public, it has become one of the primary heritage destinations in the city, serving as a platform for Palaweño artists in different fields of the creative industry and hosting exhibits and other activities.
“Basically, sabi nga natin last time, the purpose of The Residence is gawin siyang platform ng mga Palaweño artists in various areas ng creative industry like music, arts, and this time nga is sa larangan ng culinary arts para makita ng mga Palaweño artists natin yung kanilang angking husay at galing sa iba’t ibang sining na kinabibilangan nila,” Pulga said.
“So over the last months, we’ve been consistently working with the PTC and ating mga Palaweño artists and communities na ma-activate yung Residence patuloy, kasi gusto natin na araw-araw sana or at least frequently ay may activity dito sa The Residence para at least meron nang additional alternative na pasyalan yung mga turista at mga bisita natin,” he added.
Pulga also said that aside from art exhibits at the gallery, Amos Cafe, located beside The Residence, is open for small events or meetings of government agencies and other organizations.
He added that there are also plans for the cafe to partner with a commissary and serve as a food hub, citing a recent culinary arts activity that featured local products.
“And with the recent event natin, we are offering na fully yung Palawan products natin and at the same time, yung Residence, siya yung kumbaga mag-aaruga doon sa mga produkto na ‘yun na makilala rin,” he explained, referring to Tikim: A Palawan Recipe Tasting, held last September 26.
“Kumbaga, gustong ipakilala ng The Residence yung natatanging lasa, yung tatak na lasang Palaweño so yung winork out natin sa activity,” he said.
