SM City Puerto Princesa in collaboration with TESDA Palawan Provincial Office and the Puerto Princesa School of Science and Technology, Inc. (PPSST) will be hosting the 2019 Barista Battle on September 28 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the lower ground level (beside the SM Appliance), SM City Puerto Princesa. This will be participated by nine (9) students of PPSST in Barista NC II.
The said contest is in celebration of SM City Puerto Princesa’s Coffee Festival held every last week of September of the year.
“We take pride that SM Supermalls promotes youth development in the communities we serve, thus, we often mount activities that explore and enhance the social skills of our young people especially the students leading to their holistic development.” a statement from SM City Puerto Princesa.
The 2019 Barista Challenge aims to promote quality skills development in the province of Palawan and City of Puerto Princesa and to highlight the skills of the students of Barista NC II.
PPSST is the only Technical Vocational Institution in Palawan and Puerto Princesa City with a registered program in TESDA Palawan in Barista NC II.
The BARISTA NC II Qualification consists of competencies that a person must achieve in the delivery of good quality coffee in commercially-operated cafes or specialty coffee shops. This qualification is specific to a person who specializes in making coffee beverages.
The contestants will show their progress and barista skills competencies in preparing and serving espresso, cappuccino, latte, and their coffee-based signature drink.
The contest criteria parameters judging are as follows: Taste-30 points, Color contrast, symmetry, degree of difficulty, creativity-30 points, Technical aspect-15 points, and Final evaluation-25 points; a total of 100 points.
