As the country celebrates the 2020 Indigenous Peoples Month this October and the 23rd anniversary of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act or the IPRA law of 1997 on October 29, NCIP Chairperson Allen Capuyan shared his experiences visiting IP communities across the country.
The virtual activity was coordinated by the CHR Palawan Provincial Office at the Western Philippines University (WPU) on its campus in Puerto Princesa. The IP leaders are from the Batak, Tagbanua, and Pala'wan various municipalities under the Nagkakaisang Tribu ng Palawan (NATRIPAL).
Residents and indigenous peoples (IP) communities in Narra town rejected Friday the 15-megawatt coal-fired power plant project of DMCI Power Corp., asserting it will have long-term damaging impacts to their environment.
