The Provincial Board has approved a measure requesting Senate chairman of the committee on higher education Joel Villanueva to allocate funds for the construction of student’s dormitories in Palawan’ state universities.
Board Member Sharon Abiog-Onda said that the dormitory can be built in the main campuses of Palawan State University (PSU) and Western Philippines University (WPU).
“This will be constructed as a government-owned property intended for the students in the main campuses of Palawan State University and Western Philippines University. The intention of this measure is to have student’s dormitory in the provincial government’s property,” she said.
Board Member Cherry Pie Acosta proposed that the dormitory should be constructed in strategic areas and not only in the two universities.
“I am not against the putting up of dormitories in Puerto Princesa City, but I think it is proper to build within our province. I think there is no harm to request Senator Villanueva to allocate funds for at least three dormitories all over the province. Ang gusto lang naman natin ay sa province mismo ilagay kasi mayroon na rin naman tayong schools sa mga munisipyo, kaya nag-appeal tayo doon. Kung dito sa city ay parang sa kanila na rin ‘yon,” Acosta said.
