A low pressure area (LPA) entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday night and was last spotted 895 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon early Tuesday morning, according to the state weather bureau.
While it is not likely to develop into a tropical cyclone, the LPA is expected to affect weather conditions in parts of the country over the next few days. Two possible scenarios are being considered: a close approach to Luzon before moving northwest and exiting PAR, or a path that cuts across Luzon’s landmass.
“Ano mang senaryo yung mangyari dito, inaasahan nating magdadala pa rin ng mga pag-ulan itong low pressure area natin, lalo na dito sa may Luzon, Bicol Region, at Eastern Visayas,” PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said in Tuesday’s briefing.
PAGASA also noted that the country is currently experiencing a “monsoon break,” or a period of weakened southwest monsoon activity.
The monsoon is only slightly affecting extreme Northern Luzon, with little to no significant rainfall expected elsewhere due to its weakened influence.
“‘Ngayon din po, ay nandito tayo sa tinatawag nating monsoon break o yung mahina po yung epekto ng ating southwest monsoon,’” Dominguez added.
In Metro Manila and most other parts of the country, weather is expected to be generally fair during the day, but localized thunderstorms may bring rain in the afternoon or evening. Residents are advised to regularly check PAGASA’s thunderstorm advisories.
Across Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao, weather will also be fair for most of the day, but areas in Bicol and Eastern Visayas may see rains by evening due to the LPA’s trough.
“‘So mag-ingat po yung mga kababayan po natin sa mga posibilidad po ng mga flash flood at mga pagguho ng lupa,’” Dominguez warned.
