The state weather bureau said Friday the southwest monsoon, or habagat, is the weather system affecting Palawan and other parts of the country.
PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz-Galicia said Palawan and Occidental Mindoro can expect cloudy skies with a high chance of moderate to heavy rain for the day.
“Mananatiling maulap ang papawirin at mataas yung chance ng katamtaman hanggang sa malakas na mga pag-ulan dito sa Occidental Mindoro at sa Palawan province,” Galicia said.
Other areas including Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands will also have cloudy skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.
Meanwhile, Galicia said two low-pressure areas (LPAs) are being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility but have no direct effect on land.
She explained one LPA was last seen 2,030 kilometers east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon and remains too far to impact the country today.
Another LPA, the remnant of former Bagyong Bising, was seen 760 kilometers west-northwest of Batanes.
She said this system is also not affecting local weather but the public is advised to keep checking for updates in case its movement changes.
