EL NIDO, Palawan – Some 180 candidates applying for a Customer Service Representative position at Sitel flocked in their two-day Job Caravan held at Barangay Maligaya last June 8.

Anton Sanchez, Director of Operations for Sitel, said the work opportunity was brought to El Nido upon recommendation of the Palawan Tourism Council (PTC) to establish their company’s fifth MAXhub (My Associate Experience hub).

“Marami ang naapektuhan dahil sa pandemya, lalo na sa Tourism Industry kung saan isa ang bayan ng El Nido na naka-depende sa turismo. We are here to help them through Sitel employment. We saw that very effective ang hiring namin dito dahil sa tourism place may malaking potential dito in terms of speaking English. Dahil yan ay kanilang primary language na ginagamit sa work and they are very competitive here,” she said.

Sanchez added that they are thankful for PTC’s recommendation to consider El Nido as a potential site location.

She said El Nido local officials, led by Hon. Mayor Edna Gacot-Lim and the municipal council, have shown support for the job caravan.

Sanchez said the pandemic situation has helped them effectively reach out to those in dire need of jobs, especially the locals whose main sources of income were affected.

Sitel’s fifth MAXhub (My Associate Experience hub) is set to operate in mid-July.

Applicant Shaina Edma, a singer-performer and her family’s breadwinner, said she found relief in Sitel’s job caravan.

“It’s a big help to us here na may ganitong job recruitment lalo na sa panahong ‘to. Napakahirap ang sitwasyon ngayon na kailangan mong itaguyod ang pangangailangan ng pamilya mo at nawalan pa ako ng work dahil sa pandemya,” the 23-year-old said.

For Maria Catiy, a hotel receptionist for the past 4 years from Barangay Barutoan, Sitel’s job caravan spells “blessing” for those who are beginning to lose hope given the pandemic situation.

Catiy said she is desperate to find a job because the hotel she used to work for ceased their operations.

“Ang Sitel ay isang blessing para sa akin lalo na ngayon na nahinto na ako sa work ko as hotel receptionist. Need kong humanap ng ibang trabaho para sa survival namin,” she said.

Sitel recruited local residents aged 18 years old and above. When asked what the qualifications are to be hired, Sanchez said “We have minimum requirements as long as the applicants have flexible work schedules and have a positive work attitude”.

Sitel also distributed 100 relief goods to Rural Health Unit (RHU) workers on Tuesday afternoon as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility campaign.
