Two weather systems are currently affecting the country—the shearline and the northeast monsoon, which are expected to bring rains over some areas of Luzon and Visayas.
“The shearline, ito yung salubungan ng mainit at malamig na hangin. Ito ay currently nakakaapekto dito sa eastern section ng Southern Luzon at Visayas. Samantala, yung northeast monsoon naman natin ay umiiral din dito sa may Northern at Central Luzon,” state weather forecaster Chanel Dominguez said during the morning weather update.
No tropical cyclones or low-pressure areas are being monitored within or near the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
However, Dominguez said the impact of the shearline on certain areas, such as the Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, and Quezon province.
“Patuloy pa rin yung epekto nitong shearline dito sa may Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, pati na rin dito sa Quezon. Kaya asahan natin, makakaranas sila ng maulap na papawirin na may mga kalat-kalat na pag-ulan,” she said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned of heavy to intense rainfall of 100 to 200 mm in Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Samar, with moderate to heavy rains expected in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Romblon.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon is expected to bring light to moderate rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
For Visayas and Palawan, the shearline will bring scattered rains, while the rest of Mindanao can expect fair weather with chances of localized thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening.
PAGASA has issued a gale warning for the coastal waters of Batanes, Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands), Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.
“Kaya pinapaalalahanan natin ang mga kababayan natin na delikado pumalaot dito sa mga nasabi nating baybayin,” Dominguez warned.
