Environmental protection took center stage in four public elementary schools in Puerto Princesa as hundreds of pupils participated in the SEP Kiddie Caravan, an initiative aimed at nurturing environmental awareness among children through interactive and creative learning activities.
Held on June 10-11 as part of the 34th anniversary celebration of the Strategic Environmental Plan (SEP) for Palawan, the caravan brought lessons on biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, and environmental stewardship directly to students of Iratag Elementary School, Sicsican Elementary School, Sta. Monica Elementary School, and Tiniguiban Elementary School.
According to organizers, the activity was designed to help children understand the importance of protecting Palawan’s natural resources while encouraging them to become active partners in conservation efforts.
“The SEP Kiddie Caravan aims to strengthen environmental awareness among children and encourage them to become responsible stewards of nature through creative and age-appropriate learning activities,” the organizers said.
The participating pupils joined a variety of activities, including environmental games, painting sessions, and puzzle challenges that transformed environmental education into a fun and engaging experience. Students also shared their knowledge of current environmental issues affecting Palawan and discussed ways they can contribute to protecting the province’s rich biodiversity.
Organizers said introducing environmental concepts at an early age is crucial in building a generation that values sustainability and understands the significance of the Palawan Biosphere Reserve.
The activity also served as a reminder of the continuing relevance of the Strategic Environmental Plan, the landmark law that guides environmental protection and sustainable development initiatives across the province.
“The activity forms part of the continuing efforts to promote the principles of the Strategic Environmental Plan and foster appreciation for the province’s unique biodiversity among the younger generation,” the organizers added.
The SEP Kiddie Caravan 2026 was conducted through a partnership among the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS), the City Schools Division of Puerto Princesa City, and the administrations of the participating schools.
