Scattered rains over Palawan due to easterlies

Scattered rain showers will be experienced in Palawan throughout the day, the state weather bureau reported, due to the warm and humid winds from the Pacific Ocean.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said the city and Kalayaan Islands will see occasional rain, with temperatures ranging from 26 to 32 degrees Celsius.

“Dahil sa epekto ng easterlies, maaaring makaranas ang Palawan ng maulap na kalangitan na may kasamang kalat-kalat na pag-ulan sa buong araw,” she said.

Some areas of the Visayas and Mindanao, such as the Dinagat Islands, Davao Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Sarangani, are expected to see sporadic rainfall as a result of the same weather system.

Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and the Bicol Region will expect overcast skies and mild rainfall as the northeast monsoon (amihan) moves throughout Northern Luzon.

The shear line that is being formed by the interplay of the cold amihan and warm easterlies is anticipated to deliver rain to Catanduanes, Masbate, Albay, and Sorsogon.

Partly cloudy to overcast skies with scattered light showers are in store for Metro Manila and the majority of Luzon. Metro Manila should anticipate temperatures between 24 and 32 degrees Celsius, while Baguio City can see temperatures between 14 and 24 degrees Celsius, which is colder.

Dominguez said an alert has been issued by PAGASA to inhabitants of Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Masbate, Leyte, and Southern Leyte, warning them of the possibility of flash floods and landslides as a result of moderate to heavy rainfall.

Although it is anticipated that the shear line would diminish by Saturday, March 22, it is possible that heavy rains will continue to fall across Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte until the next weekend.

Cotabato City, Maguindanao, had the maximum recorded temperature of 41 degrees Celsius on Thursday according to the heat index. Today, they may anticipate the same amount of heat, with a heat index of 33–34 degrees Celsius predicted for Metro Manila.

PAGASA has also warned that the northeast monsoon would bring severe gusts to the northern and eastern coasts of Albay, Sorsogon, Northern and Eastern Samar, and Catanduanes. The harsh waters make these regions unsafe for small boats to navigate.
