Muslim inmates at the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) received Ramadan gift packs from the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) Palawan, giving them support as they observe the holy month behind bars.
The outreach, led by NCMF Palawan head Prof. Said-Alih K. Sha, covered several areas of the facility, including the Central Sub-Colony, Inagawan Sub-Colony, and the Correctional Institution for Women in Sta. Lucia on March 14 and 16.
Each pack contained dates and food for “iftar,” the meal eaten after sunset to break the fast during Ramadan—helping inmates continue their religious practices even while in detention.
Officials said the simple gesture was meant to show that the inmates are not forgotten and are still supported in practicing their faith.
The Bureau of Corrections, through its leadership and IPPF officials, backed the activity, emphasizing the importance of respecting the welfare and religious needs of persons deprived of liberty.
