Rain showers likely in Visayas, east Luzon this Monday

Rain is expected to affect Visayas and the eastern section of Southern Luzon this Monday due to the continued presence of easterlies, while the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) remains over Mindanao, the state weather bureau said.

In its latest update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said cloud clusters brought by easterlies are now affecting a large part of the Visayas and eastern Luzon.

“Buong Visayas as well as itong eastern section ng Southern Luzon, ngayong araw asahan natin itong mataas na tsansa ng pag-ulan,” said PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James Villamil.

Villamil added that thunderstorms were already observed early Monday in central and western Visayas, and more rain is expected later in the day.

“Asahan din natin na magpapatuloy yung makulimlim na panahon throughout this area at asahan na rin natin na yung bulk ng mga pag-ulan ay pagsapit ng hapon hanggang sa gabi,” he said.

The ITCZ is still bringing some rain over Mindanao, although less compared to previous days. Villamil said Mindanao will continue to experience fair weather with chances of isolated, short rain showers, especially in the afternoon and evening.

For Luzon, including Metro Manila, the weather will be generally fair with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated thunderstorms in the late afternoon or evening. No low-pressure area or storm is expected in the next few days.

Sea conditions will remain slight to moderate across the country. No gale warning is in effect, but those going to sea were reminded to be cautious of sudden thunderstorms that may cause strong winds and rough waves.

PAGASA said Quezon, Bicol, Aurora, Cagayan Valley, and parts of Eastern Visayas may still experience scattered rain and thunderstorms until Friday, June 20.

The rest of the country, including Metro Manila and Palawan, will have generally fair weather with chances of isolated rain showers.
