The Power Family canceled its scheduled line maintenance across Puerto Princesa City on Sunday, August 2, following Saturday’s widespread blackout and delayed restoration of electricity.
The Power Family is composed of the Palawan Electric Cooperative (PALECO), DMCI Power Corporation, and Delta P.
Maintenance covering Lucbuan Feeders 1 and 2 will continue from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The canceled maintenance activities were scheduled from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The announcement came after a widespread power outage affected Puerto Princesa and other parts of Palawan on Saturday, August 1.
Janelle Rebusada said the restoration of power began at 4:14 p.m. after PALECO, National Power Corporation, and Delta P completed their simultaneous annual preventive maintenance test.
However, a total blackout occurred at 4:55 p.m., delaying the return of electricity in several areas.
PALECO system operators found no indication that the cooperative’s distribution system caused the total blackout. They reported the same finding following the succeeding outages.
The cooperative said it had yet to receive an official report from the National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) explaining the cause of the blackouts.
At around 7:31 p.m., TransCo reported that power restoration remained underway in Puerto Princesa and Northern Palawan. Electricity in Southern Palawan had been fully restored by 7:15 p.m.
Power was restored to all feeders and reclosers by 10:46 p.m., according to TransCo’s report to PALECO.
