Puerto Princesa taps young entrepreneurs to boost night economy

Puerto Princesa City reopened the Baywalk Night Market on August 10, providing young entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium enterprises with a venue to sell their products and services.

Called the “Youth Festival Bazaar and Barakalan sa Gabi 2026,” the market forms part of the city’s efforts to expand business activity at night and support local enterprises.

The City Youth Development Office said the initiative allows young vendors to gain experience in business management, organization and daily operations.

“Tinawag itong Youth Festival Bazaar at Barakalan sa Gabi 2026, layunin ng aktibidad na bigyang-lakas ang partisipasyon ng mga kabataan sa larangan ng entrepreneurship, habang binibigyang pagkakataon din ang maliliit na negosyante na maipakilala at maitaguyod ang kanilang mga produkto at serbisyo,” the organizers said in a statement released by the City Information Office.

MSMEs and other small businesses in Puerto Princesa were also given priority in the allocation of selling spaces. The city expects the night market to help vendors reach more customers while drawing residents and visitors to the Baywalk after daytime business hours.

Food, merchandise and services are featured at the market, along with performances by young Puerto Princesans.

The activity is one of the opening events of the 7th Puerto Princesa Youth Festival. It is organized by the City Youth Development Office, headed by Ralph Richard Asuncion, with the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation led by Councilor Karl Dylan Aquino and youth organizations from communities and schools.

The opening night drew residents and young people, indicating demand for evening commercial activities at the Baywalk, according to the city youth office.

“Bahagi ito ng patuloy na pagsusulong sa night economy at night tourism ng lungsod, na naglalayong gawing mas masigla ang komersiyo at turismo maging sa mga oras ng gabi,” the city added.

The city government is encouraging residents to patronize participating enterprises and support programs that provide young people with opportunities to start and operate businesses.
