The Committee on Peace and Order and Public Safety has taken up the proposed resolution of Councilor Patrick Alex Hagedorn urging city offices to strictly enforce the existing Anti-Littering Ordinance of Puerto Princesa City.
Hagedorn said the goal is to restore public discipline in waste disposal, similar to what was observed during the administration of the late former mayor Edward S. Hagedorn. He explained that cleanliness was one of the factors that made the city well known across the country and abroad.
The councilor also noted that Puerto Princesa once received numerous awards and was declared a “Hall of Fame” awardee for being the “Cleanest and Greenest Component City” in the 1990s.
His proposal includes the regular deployment of City Oplan Linis and other local government personnel in identified litter-prone areas, installation of more visible signage about the ordinance, continued enforcement and fines against violators, and sustained information and education campaigns in schools, barangays, and other public places.
During the committee meeting, City Oplan Linis asked for additional personnel and deputized agents who will be authorized to apprehend and issue tickets to violators of the Anti-Littering Ordinance. The office said they currently lack manpower, especially those empowered to issue tickets.
“Siguro, magpapasa na lang ako ng 2nd resolution na magdagdag pa ng tauhan para sa City Oplan Linis at ‘yung magiging deputized agents na pwedeng mag-issue ng ticket sa violators. Pero tama din na i-tap na natin ang City Traffic, City PNP, Anti-Crime at iba pa para sa implementation nito,” Hagedorn said.
