The city government highlighted the connection between environmental protection and community livelihoods as it marked International Day of Forests and World Water Day on March 21 at Cascading Park.
Led by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO), the activity brought together Palawan State University interns, SARIBUHAY, and the City ENRO Savers Group to promote awareness on sustainable resource use.
Officials said this year’s themes—“Forests and Economies” and “Water and Gender”—underscore how forests support income and how access to water affects health, dignity, and equality.
Participants joined tree-nurturing activities and wellness sessions, while an orientation on the city arboretum highlighted its role as a sanctuary for endemic and native tree species and a venue for environmental learning.
City ENRO said the activity also aligns with global sustainability goals, particularly responsible consumption and production, as it encouraged the public to adopt practices that protect ecosystems.
Organizers said the event reinforces the message that safeguarding forests and water resources is essential not only for the environment but also for long-term socio-economic stability.
