The City Council recognized and honored on Monday five students from Palawan National School (PNS) after they won medals and brought pride to Puerto Princesa and the province of Palawan at the Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad held on August 22–25, 2025.
Grade 10 student Gerome Benedict Macaraeg won a gold medal and placed 4th in the competition, which gathered participants from 19 countries.
Ryan Llaneta and Ashantia Catrice Madarcos each took home a bronze medal, while Julian Marzo and Bhryle Tomesa received merit awards.
PNS Principal Jabel Anthony Nuñala said their students went through a difficult process before being chosen to compete.
“We are proud to present and announce the achievement of our learners.
The five students were personally given a copy of the resolution that recognized their talent and excellence in the field of mathematics.
