The proposed ordinance authored by Councilor Victor Oliveros seeking to extend the deadline for the renewal of business permits at the city government level has passed its third and final reading.
During a special session held on January 20, the City Council approved the ordinance setting the new deadline on February 20.
Vice Mayor Jimbo Maristela said the ordinance was passed to formally extend the deadline for the payment of business taxes, which was originally set on January 20, to give business owners more time until February 20.
“Sa ordinansa po may tax credit at may retroactive effect ang ating ordinansa na ikinasa,” Maristela said.
He explained that the ordinance also addresses concerns of those who may have already paid their business taxes, noting that the measure allows for tax credits and has retroactive effect.
He added that many business owners are still completing documentary requirements and are also facing financial difficulties, which is why the extension was deemed necessary.
