The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has updated the official names of one municipality and one barangay in Palawan, as part of its first quarter 2025 revisions to the Philippine Standard Geographic Code (PSGC).
In a bulletin released Wednesday, April 23, the PSA announced that the town formerly listed as Rizal will now be officially recognized as the municipality of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, Palawan.
The correction was made in line with Republic Act No. 6652, enacted on April 17, 1988, and a certification issued by the municipal mayor on February 27, 2025.
Also corrected was the name of Barangay De Carabao in Culion, which will now appear in the PSGC as Barangay Carabao.
The adjustment is supported by Republic Act No. 9032 dated March 12, 2001; Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 2008-61 dated February 26, 2008; and a certification signed by the Culion municipal mayor on November 4, 2024.
The PSA said the name changes were based on the recommendations of the Interagency Technical Working Group on Geographic Code (TWGGC).
