The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Board has approved a new version of the country’s tourism classification system aimed at strengthening the way tourism industries and products are measured and reported.
During its 41st Board Meeting, the PSA Board adopted the Philippine Tourism Statistical Classification System (PTSCS) Version 2.1, which provides an updated framework aligned with international standards, including the United Nations Tourism’s International Recommendations for Tourism Statistics 2008.
The updated system incorporates emerging and expanded tourism activities, allowing for more accurate and comprehensive classification across the sector.
With its approval, PTSCS Version 2.1 will serve as the official standard for tourism statistics in the Philippines and will support the compilation of the Philippine Tourism Satellite Account (PTSA).
The PSA said the move is expected to improve the production of relevant, coherent, and internationally comparable tourism data, strengthening evidence-based planning and policy development in the tourism industry.
