Board Member Marivic Roxas requests Palawan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) to place municipality of Bataraza under COMELEC control in connection with incoming 2019 local and national elections.

The Palawan Provincial Board (PB) has approved a resolution that is seeking the placement of Bataraza town under the control of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in the coming 2019 local elections.

Resolution author board member Marivic Roxas, who is also running for mayor in Bataraza, said placing Bataraza under COMELEC control will avoid violence in their town like the ambushes that happened in the past and will manage the presence of theCommission on Elections (COMELEC

The resolution is addressed to the Palawan Provincial Police Office (PPO) for endorsement to the COMELEC.

“Public knowledge naman kasi na ang Bataraza ay laging hotspot area tuwing election. Kaya sana gusto natin na hindi na maulit ang mga nangyari doon noon. We are trying to request lang naman, mas maganda na pumunta tayo sa mga presinto na masaya at walang iniisip na baka may mangyari,” Roxas said.

(It’s public knowledge that Bataraza has always been a hotspot during election time. What we’re hoping is that what happened in the past will no longer happen now. We are trying to request this because it will always make us feel nice to go to election precincts without worrying if something will happen.)

As a  hotspot area, Bataraza’s security should be ready and well-coordinated with law enforcement authorities.

“Normal naman sa tao ang natatakot pero this is to protect our constituency. Bilang nanay, ganoon din ang gusto natin na pag-alaga sa ating munisipyo. Sana lang hindi na maulit ang dati [na nagkagulo],” she explained.

(It’s normal for a person to get scared, but this is to protect our constituency. As a mother, it’s how I want to take care of our municipality. I just hope what happened in the past where there was violence will not be repeated.)
