The tourism committee of the Provincial Board (PB) is studying a measure seeking the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority’ (TIEZA) help in putting a floating dock in the Calauit Safari Park in Busuanga.
Authored by board member David Francis Ponce de Leon, the measure also wants to request TIEZA to set up a tourism information center (TIC) in the game reserve and wildlife sanctuary in northern Palawan.
“Kung papayag ang TIEZA mas maganda dahil mababawasan ang budget allocation natin for the rehabilitation ng park. Pwedeng magamit na lang ang pera sa gamot [ng mga hayop] and other maintenance doon,” he said.
Ponce de Leon said the request is in line with TIEZA’s target to build facilities in other tourist destinations like Calauit.
TIEZA is an agency that is mandated to designate, regulate and supervise the established Tourism Enterprise Zones (TEZs), as well as develop, manage and supervise tourism infrastructure projects in the country.
He said the construction of the floating dock and TIC would help the easy travel of tourists visiting the game reserve as well as providing them information.
He said that the TIC and floating or modular dock are basic needs of the tourists during their vacation.
“Nagawa na kasi ýan ng TIEZA sa ibang lugar at nabanggit din nila sa mga sulat kung ano-ano ang mga lugar na pwede nilang magawan ng mga ganyan,” he said.
The provincial government is implementing the rehabilitation of the Calauit Safari Park in April with a budget of around P5.2 million.
