A resolution requesting all local government units (LGUs) in northern and southern Palawan to encourage restaurant owners “to promote and offer coconut water to their customers” was approved at the Provincial Board (PB), Tuesday.
Its author, Board Member Cesareo Benedito, Jr., said in his proposed resolution that this measure is seen to raise the income of the coconut farmers who are continuously affected by the declining price of copra.
“Coconut water, known as buko juice is pure and a natural beverage that will benefit our health by strengthening our body, reducing fatigue, and taking care of our normal heart functions,” said Benedito in the resolution.
Benedito reiterated this will not only help the coconut industry of the province, but will improve as well the health of its constituents.
Benedito also sought and was granted that all the provincial board members present during the regular session on Tuesday, September 10, be co-authors for this proposed resolution.
On the other hand, BM David Francis Ponce de Leon, who requested that Benedito include northern Palawan in the coverage of his proposed resolution said this measure is very timely, most especially to the coconut farmers in the province.
Before it was amended upon the request of Ponce de Leon, the proposed resolution only covers southern Palawan area.
“This resolution is very timely. Alam naman natin na copra is all time low ang prices. With this resolution, mapapalalakas ‘yong coconut industry, thus supporting ‘yong ating mga coconut farmers,” said Ponce de Leon.
