Palawan’s veterinary office has set its sights on improving cattle and carabao production through free scientific techniques, which it hopes would result in better-quality livestock.
Provincial Veterinary (ProVet) chief Dr. Marius Mangcucang said last week that they’re focused on strengthening their programs, such as animal breeding services and herd health and genetics improvement.
He said they are providing free artificial insemination (AI), estrus synchronization, and pregnancy diagnosis, among others.
The province’s veterinary chief also showcased the results of these efforts, highlighting that a significant number of cows and carabaos that underwent artificial insemination last year have successfully given birth.
The semen used for the carabaos came from Indian Buffalo and Bulgarian breeds provided by the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), while Brahman semen supplied by the National Dairy Authority (NDA) was used for the cows.
ProVet said it is working closely with AI technicians stationed in various municipalities across the province. The programs were initially implemented in the towns of Dumaran, San Vicente, Rizal, Sofronio Española, Brooke’s Point, and Narra, and the team is currently in Bataraza to deliver the same services.
