A pregnant 24-year-old resident of Purok Bagong Buhay, Barangay Bancao-Bancao was arrested early Friday afternoon in an anti-illegal drugs sting operation by police authorities.
City Police Station 1 chief P/Lt. Ray Aron Elona said Vicky (real name withheld) was arrested after their undercover agent was able to purchase a sachet of shabu from her and confiscated 18 sachets more.
Elona said that based on their initial investigation, Vicky, a mother to three young children, does not have any previous record involving drugs and other offenses. Her name was not also on their Oplan Tokhang list.
“Hindi naman siya involved talaga dati kasi hindi naman lumalabas ang pangalan niya. wala rin siya sa list ng Oplan Tokhang kaya medyo nabigla rin kami noong naaresto siya kasi nakita namin may mga maliliit pang anak at buntis pa,” he said.
Elona said Vicky admitted selling shabu but they are still finding out why she did it. She was also not coherent when they were investigating.
Even her neighbors, he said, did not know that she was selling shabu.
“Sa initial investigation namin, hindi namin makausap pa ng maayos ang suspek. Aminado naman siya na ginawa niya nga iyon, pero iyong reason is hindi niya pa rin sinasabi kung bakit,” he said.
“Hindi rin alam ng mga kapitbahay niya kung bakit niya pinasok iyon at hindi rin nila natunugan na ganoon pala ang activities ng kapitbahay nila (suspek),” Elona said.
Vicky’s children are all being taken care of by a neighbor, he said. She refused to hand them over to social welfare.
Her husband, Elona added, is a detainee at the provincial jail due to a murder case.
“Naroon sa pangangalaga ng kapitbahay nila [ang mga beta] kasi yong mother ayaw niya rin ipadala sa DSWD kasi nga wala siyang kamag-anak dito. Ang pinagkakatiwalaan niya lang talaga na puwedeng maging guardian pansamantala ng mga bata is iyong kapitbahay nila na kaibigan niya rin naman na babae,” he said.
However, he said they are not sure if the children will remain under the custody of the neighbor for long because there is a long process involving the situation.
