The Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) of Palawan considers making data generated from the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) more accessible at barangay levels to help raise their appreciation of its significance in communities.
According to PPDO head Sharlene Daquer-Vilches, not all barangays in the province have access to digital portals that publish data. The posting of data on boards in communities would be helpful for the residents.
“Kung pupunta sa island, kung may makikita kayong board don talagang kapaki-pakinabang. Maganda rin sa paningin ko kasi nandon ‘yong malnourished, employment, peace and order, nakikita nila,” she said.
This response was after the concern raised in the 2025 Regional CBMS Convention and Data Festival that appreciation of data generated by CBMS do not usually reach barangay levels, which should benefit the most from the information.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) also backed the consideration of making data accessible to communities through its issuance of a memorandum to local government units in Palawan.
“We will issue a corresponding memo for LGUs to display that information,” said DILG Palawan Provincial Director Juanito Olave Jr.
Meanwhile, the two-day Regional CBMS Convention and Data Festival hosted in Palawan aimed to emphasize the importance of utilizing CBMS in informed decision-making that would help in various problems, such as poverty reduction and strengthening local recovery and risk reduction.
Participating provinces in the region also utilized CBMS in tracking their progress in meeting their goals at the provincial level of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). (PIA Palawan)
