Possible days of rain in Palawan due to shear line

The state weather bureau reported on Thursday morning that moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to affect Palawan in the coming days due to the shear line.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the interaction between the northeast monsoon (amihan) and warm, moist easterlies is triggering widespread cloudiness and scattered rain showers in the province.

“Para naman dito sa may Palawan, kabuuan na Visayas, pati na rin dito sa Caraga, dulot ng shear line, asahan pa rin natin ang mga kalat-kalat na pag-ulan. Kaya ibayong pag-iingat sa mga kababayan natin sa mga posibilidad ng mga flash flood at mga pagguho ng lupa,” PAGASA’s weather specialist, Chenel Dominguez, said.

Palawan, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, and parts of the Visayas are forecasted to experience 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall between February 20 and 22.

On Saturday, the rain may weaken slightly but will still pose risks of localized flooding.

“Para naman sa Sabado, dulot po ng paghina na nitong shear line dito naman sa may Palawan, ang inaasahan natin na moderate to heavy or 50-100 mm of rain,” she added.

Meanwhile, PAGASA predicts heavy to intense rain accumulation of up to 200 millimeters, with Northern Samar and Eastern Samar expected to endure the brunt of the shear line.

The weather disturbance is also affecting Bicol, Quezon, and several provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao.

In contrast, Metro Manila and most of Luzon will see fair weather with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

Mindanao will remain mostly sunny and humid, though localized thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon and evening.
