Police probe fatal incident linked to suspected illegal fishing

A fisherman died in an explosion believed to be linked to illegal fishing using “bong-bong” in the waters off Barangay Taburi, Rizal, Palawan, around 4:10 p.m. on October 14, 2025.

The victim was identified as alias “Ambo,” 65, married, and a resident of the said barangay.

Investigation showed that around 3:00 p.m., the victim left his home to go fishing on his paddle boat. More than an hour later, a resident near the fishing area reportedly heard a loud explosion.

Nearby fishermen quickly responded and helped Ambo, who had suffered severe injuries. He was brought to shore and rushed to Rizal District Hospital for medical treatment. However, at around 6:14 p.m. on the same day, he was declared dead on arrival by doctors due to heavy bleeding and injuries from the blast.
