Police look into early morning blast report in Balabac

The Palawan Police Provincial Office (PalPPO) said in an update yesterday that the loud explosion that damaged houses in Barangay Bancalaan in Balabac early Saturday morning has been investigated to be allegedly from a blast caused by homemade explosives used for illegal fishing.

The provincial police said investigators in the island municipality looked into the incident and discovered that the blast, followed by smoke, caused damage to houses nearby.

“Further, the cause of the explosion is the alleged bongbong intended for fishing, and the estimated damage is still under investigation,” Police Major Ric Ramos stated.

The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. on November 15. A resident, Jussa Redobe, posted on Facebook that the blast shook their community at dawn.

She added that a father and his child survived the incident.

“Diyos ko, grabe akala namin magugunaw na ang Marabon. Grabe ang lakas ng pagsabog, akala namin panaginip lang. Time check 3:30 ng madaling araw,” she said.

“Salamat at buhay pa ang mag-ama ni Bongbong. Walang nangyaring masama. May galos lang kunti sa katawan ng mag-ama,” she added.
